im an aspiring author with a ton of ideas. i always start with an outline but than i re-read it and dont like it and i erase it and try again but nothing sounds publish worthy. i try just starting writing the story but the same thing happens. any advice not just on that either like writing and publishing advice in general

It's great you are trying to write and go for your dreams!
I write occationaly, when I have a good line pop in my head. I always write down things that I think would sound good in a book..lines, words that are cool or something.
I NEVER make an outline. I just go where ever my thoughts take me.. free writing. I don't think I'd ever publish anything, but who knows.
Also..you need to remember it's just a first draft! it doesn't HAVE to be perfect!
You have tons of other times to go through and rewrite something, take something out, or add something it.
If you are really stuck at some part, and you don't like how it's sounding, DO NOT scrap your entire work! Just keep on writing, and when you're done, and someone else reads it they can help you fix the parts you don't like, or maybe you'll think of something better by then.
I always have to remember that when I'm writing, otherwise, I'd never get anything done!

Also I find it easier to write about things I'm told to write about. I don't like having to come up with a whole plot, I just like filling in the details!

Best of luck!

dont't be afraid to write. meaning don't change ur mind because you are afraid of what other people will say about it. as for things like character think of someone you know and for dialogues think of what they would say in response to something. if you dont like how they look check google for pic. this what you will basically need:
A) a quester
B) a place to go
C) a stated reason to go there
D) challenges and trials on route
E) a real reason to go there
another thing that helps alot is to read inspiring pieces of literature. read a lot and you can copy the authors writing style. not work! style. like read through an entire page of text but only read the first couple words of each sentence. some pages will be diverse while others will be repetative. divrerse is prefered so the reader doesnt get bored. repetative is mainly used in dialogues or to get a point across. then look back at yours. and do the same thing. if u were to describe something like a room do the walls in to the center or the center of the room out, otherwise you will confuse the reader. hope i helped :D but if it helps i always change my outline too. eventually i just forget it and start writing the story and see where the words take me. :)
oh! and a good way to practice is fanfiction. right a fanfiction about a book you really like and go with it it helps you practice and ppl review you and stuff :D

I'm currently reading a book called "How To Write A Book Without Lifting A Finger". It's about how to hire a ghost writer. I know what you're thinking, but what he says is that it's almost impossible for an unknown to get published. He says the way to start off is to have your first book ghost written so that you will have your name on the cover as the author and will therefore have some standing with publishers to get your future books in print.

He used the figures from 2002 to make the point that less than 1 percent of the books published that year were NOT ghost written. The publishers go with ghost written books because the writer is a known commodity. They don't like risk.

like the others said, just free write. even if it sounds bad at first, just ignore it and continue writing. if you keep stopping to check if it sounds good, you'll never finnish it. usually though, it actually sounds decent when you free write (for me anyways)
