Writers: What author's style would you say your writing most resembles?

Or is it uniquely your own?
Does your writing have any quirks to it?

Also, if you could have a choice in the matter, whose style would you rather your work resemble? I know I wish my work were more like Vladimir Nabokov. I think his prose is beautiful.

Oh my goodness, that's a tough one to answer. In all honesty, it depends on my mood at the time of writing. Sometimes I want (and never achieve) the eloquence and descriptive abilities of someone like Leo Tolstoy, and sometimes I want the simplicity yet effectiveness of someone like Cormac McCarthy. In the end, I think my writing style is a mishmash of several authors whom I admire. That is a tough one to nail down. Great question, Aly.

I don't think my writing resembles anyone's, really. I write the way I do because I've always wanted to read something like what I write but was never able to find it. If I could pick someone to resemble, it would be LM Montgomery. Her descriptions were lovely and her style never seems to get old.

Oh dear.

It's quite hard actually realising your style's been influenced a lot by another writer. But I'll have to be honest and say Marcus Zusak. Though hopefully I haven't copied his metaphors too much, just the slightly abstract touch.

Note: I'm not saying my humble work is anywhere near Zusak's standar, they're just incomparable! XD Just in case any fans get annoyed.

I think my style's not that mundane though, it does have its originality but not a style that could be recognised at the moment. For example, if someone read it at the moment, I'm not too sure they'd remember it if they saw it again. But then, that's what experience is all about!

I'm really working on stylistically improving my writing, but there's a quote which says something along the lines of, 'when you discover you have a style, it's the end of your career as an author.' I think that's quite true really.

At the end of the day, telling the story is all that matters.

Great question, as usual!

You always ask the most interesting questions.

I think my writing style is my own. I'd like to be able to compare it to some great author, but I'd be fooling myself.

If I had my choice, I would be able to write like Dean Koontz. His characters are fascinating and his style is remarkable.

Terry Brooks...I read so many of his novels. A bad thing really, but as long as I stay far away from his plots and characters I am good. :)
