I love to write but my lack of experience ruins my confidence. I can never make my work sound good. I have posted a few extracts on here over the months and I have received mixed reviews. What do you think of this, its all I have managed to write in 2 days. Be critical but don't be mean

Amelia Grace Vondenheuvel had started her day as normal as any other. She took a shower before breakfast and subsequently pursued the aroma of her grandmother’s cooking to the small kitchen of the ranch house.
Similar to every morning, she was greeted by a warm smile and a mug of freshly brewed coffee, set by a large plate of waffles which were drowned in a sea of maple syrup. It was anyone’s guess how she managed to keep her figure so trim.
However, today wasn’t like any other normal day, today was Amelia’s eighteenth birthday and the days that followed today were about to become a whole lot more confusing than her yesterdays.
