I know these horror franchises like to churn out sequel after sequel but I don't think they have quite reached halloween 78 just yet.

Halloween H20 is probably the best of the Halloween films to date since the 1978 original, due to the return of Laurie Strood (Jamie Lee Curtis) which gave the franchise some much needed continuity and over rided the Halloween films 3-6 completely. Halloween H20 was the beginning of a new chapter and does have it's scary moments, a bit like the original did.

It's a pity John Carpenter couldn't have been persuaded to get involved with H20 in fact. I'm sure I read somewhere Carpenter was approached but he turned it down. Carpenter himself has often said though he doesn't like sequels and thinks Halloween has 'had it's day'. You'd have thought with the main man behind Halloween saying this, Hollywood would have got the message by now.

Rob Zombie's Halloween meanwhile is a brave attempt to re-tell the Halloween story, but failed miserably. Bottom line is any Halloween remake centered around the original 1978 film will never be as good because film makers had so much more freedom in them days. Nowadays special effects and gore take priority over psychological shock horror, unfortunately.
