Wouldnt it improve their fanbase?
I'm not talking about the Superstar players, but mediocre or above average guys that would be easy to Acquire.
For example:
The Warriors can go after Leon Powe (Berkley) or the Lopez brothers who played for nearby Stanford.
The Lakers can go after Jason Kapono (UCLA) or some scrub that went to USC. Ugh but they already let former Bruin Ariza slip away.
or the Nets can go after hometown kid Dahntay Jones, etc.
you get the picture.
