so, we have excess land and i was thinking of becoming a bamboo farmer.

many business are leaning towards bamboo now with clothes and such.

what do you guys think?

we have land and it is in the hills (away from town about 30 min. so it won't disrupt anybody)

i am going to look into it but wanted to know what the "green" peeps thought about an "inspiring bamboo farmer" lol.

i personally have a organic shirt made with bamboo and it is the softest thing evvverr

i was also thinking of making my own line of organic skin care products.all the ones i come across are expensive as hell (40 bucks for a reg. size of shampoo!!!) but wouldnt want to make a line that is not organic and natural.

i think a lot of people will be seeing how screwed up this world is by all the crap in it and will be turning more towards organic products.

Well, bamboo probably has the greatest environmental benefit when used as a building material (like bamboo flooring.) It would also be quite a lucrative way to sell your bamboo since this is quite an expensive product.

You would also have one great advantage: most of the time, people who want to 'go green' and use bamboo building materials are making a sacrifice by not choosing locally produced material (which has less emissions to bring it to where they are) to get the bamboo which is better for the environment than trees, but which is often grown thousands of miles away. You would give them the chance to have the best of both worlds: ie, locally grown and bamboo.

Of course, you'll probably have to go through a factory that can turn your raw bamboo into a flooring material, but as long as the factory is not based in some far away place, you should still be able to claim that the final product is locally grown. I'd expect to make some pretty good bank on this, especially once the housing market recovers.

This is a great idea! Bamboo will be the furniture of the near future because it grows so fast that it will be used instead of trees to make homes and furniture. I saw a show on this on HGTV. You might find the show at hgtv.com.

Go with this idea because you have the land, the spirit and the environment/future on going for you! Bamboo is beautiful too.

The best of luck to you.
