Would you rather argue or have respectful conversation?

[I believe the word]

I am a Christian. I would rather have respectful conversations to learn from those who hold opposite beliefs than I do, than argue and call each other names, and be disrespectful. In honesty what would you rather do, and why do you believe that it seems almost impossible for us to have debates without being jerks to one another. ( from both sides of the coin) ? There is much we can learn from one another, even if we cannot persuade one another.

I enjoy conversation about other religions, or even sects of my own religion. Unfortunately, most People only want their voice to be heard and talk over everyone else. I cried when I saw the video of the preacher that verbally attacked those two Mormon boys. It was horrible. If people would accept that you cannot convert everyone and even if that is your goal that being a terrible person while doing it is not the way to go.
