Think of a technical position like a computer programmer that has hiring costs and is difficult to fill well. Two candidates are before you and you can only hire one. Would you prefer someone that is proficient in many computer languages and also average in the specific language you need, or would you prefer someone that would solve your immediate needs with excellence but may not be interested in the other projects you need done? How many people have you hired? Did their pay come from your own pocket?
