Oh dear
Firstly, organised crime doesn't mean that they plan their illegal activities with a PDA and diary and everything it neat and tidy. It means it's not carried out as the result of a split second decision on the spur of a moment.
For every crime there is a victim. If you don't believe, or at least acknowledge that, then you have a problem. Also, your mate (or m8.. is there something wrong with your keyboard?) may not have brought a studio to his knees but he is part of the bigger problem. I didn't start the breakdown of the ozone layer but I did use CFC's that made it worse!
You say why it's not the man down the pub who's ripping you off, it's the multinationals. The cinema's only charge what they have to because we keep wanting bigger screens, bigger budget movies, bigger explosions through bigger and better sounRABystems and that stuff doesn't come cheap. So I say the man down the pub is ripping us off because he's the one that is forcing Hollywood to put up it's prices to cover the costs of pirates like him cutting into their business.
So next time you go down to the cinema and get all upset about the price of a ticket, go down the pub and thank your mate (sorry, m8) for being part of that problem. Also, with the mark ups on concessions in cinemas being far more than you'll get on a ticket for the film perhaps your mate (m8) should start pirating popcorn, nachos and hotdogs to 'supplement his income' because he'd make a lot more!
Oh, and I hope the taxman doesn't find out about his 'income supplement' because then he'll be in double trouble and get a criminal record to boot! Maybe he should get a second job? A legal one that is..
