Would you ever recommend a tethered jailbreak?

The reason why I ask is because I own an ipod touch 4g running 4.2.1. Before, I had an Ipod touch 2g which was very convenient because it was an M.B model. The reason why I got a new one was because my 2g got FUCKING stolen. (I swear I'm going to fucking kill the person that did) Anyways..I never got to experience a tether jailbreak and I don't know if it's bad or not. Can anyone tell me what are the consequences of a tether jailbreak. I know that it has something to do with you always have to plug your Ipod in to turn it on. Tell me if it would delete my jailbroken apps and other crap. I'm so impatient to find an answer!! DX<
