Would you consider this an eating disorder?

When I am at school, I don't like eating in front of people (at lunch) because I am afraid they will think I am fat or something. And when I am at home, we have meals at the table, and although everyone else is eating, I don't like to. I am afraid if I take too big a bite or something like that, people will think I'm fat. I lost 8 pounds last month alone. I'm trying not to do this, but it is really hard to stop. Is there a problem?

I think that's just silly. What's going to happen if you go on vacation, and you have to eat in front of people?

People aren't going to think you are fat because you eat. Simple as that. Now if you were eating, say, double what you should be (4 cheeseburgers, 2 large fries, 4 sodas, etc etc) you might want to cut it back some. But you still need to eat.

Think about it, do you think other people are fat because they eat lunch? Are people in your family fat because they eat dinner? Don't scarf your food and you should be fine.

whatever it is its not normal. get over your irrational fear and eat like everyone else. lifes to short to worry about something as ridiculous as how you look when you eat

Yes, I'm afraid you do have a problem. Its not so much what you are doing but why. This small problem will grow into something larger as you mature. You need to nip it in the bud now. People don't think you are fat because you eat something. They will think you are fat if you look fat.
Not eating will only screw up your metabolism and then you will become fat- your body will go into starvation mode and your metabolism will shut down and when you do eat, you will retain the fat and not burn it off.

I think that generally, when you have to consult people as to whether or not your habits are an eating disorder, it's very likely you have one and you already know it. Of course that is an eating disorder, you are not getting enough of the nutrients that your body needs to survive and losing weight rapidly. Since you feel like you aren't controlling this behavior you should consider seeking the help of a liscensed counselor, psychologist, or psychaitrist as this is compulsory behavior that is happening without much thought. You may still be eating little bits but you are still starving your body and on a road (or possibly at the end of the road) of developing anorexia. Good luck to you and please let us know what you decide to do <3

Yes, there is a problem. It sounds to me like a form of OCD, or possibly anorexia. You are insecure about your weight, because you are afraid of what others think about your appearance.I know it's hard, but you really need to eat. Stick to healthy foods. People don't think you're a pig when you eat lots of veggies! People actually might start to look up to you because many kids refuse to eat foos like that, and when they see you starting to grow taller, you will become a role model. :)
