Would you complain to the police if the kids in the neighborhood were always out in

the street unsupervised? There's a lot of kids in our area. It seems like parents just like them out of the house. They are literally playing in the street all the time when the weather is warm. Some of these kids stand in the way of traffic. Others are young, like 6 or 7 and just running loose.
They make tons of noise and romp through yards damaging plants. I don't understand whatever happened to backyards or parks.
I appreciate the ideas. I have to say though that talking to the parents isn't something I would consider. I don't think they would appreciate me telling them they should be watching their kids. I think that most neglectful neighbors just get worse when you try to talk to them about things they're doing you don't like.

Try living in my hood in Brooklyn. It's little kids out running around unsupervised all the damn time.

I would because it is very dangerous. What if they get run over my a car? I think you should just tell the parents first and if the parents don't listen, tell the police.

No. Talk to their parents first or write them a letter (if you want to remain anonymous). Explain to them what a danger it is and that you feel the kids are too young to be unsupervised. Also let them know that they are in the way of traffic and that if it doesn't stop, someone may call the authorities. Try to ne neighborly about it first. I would hate for those kids to end up in foster care and probably with people who are even worse than the parents. Good luck, this is a real tricky one.
