We are looking to buy a used Goldwing. We saw a 1978 GL1000 today. Came with stock + King & Queen seat. Seller claimed was a "restored beauty," I saw a bucket of rusty crap. Some rust, alot of oxidation, suitcase hard bags didn't even close or seal tight. Ran hotter then it should & could see leaks on seals on forks starting, stalled once after starting. Back lights didn't work right, break light. Had 60,000 mi. Carbs needed cleaning & adjustment. Mismatched ferring but fit, however the whole thing was dirty. I'd be EMBARASSED to ride it, put it that way.
I know we're looking to buy a bike not the seller, but believe me when I say the seller was a junkie (don't worry, clear title) said he was fired from job because no one liked him, living with his mom, total scumbag, very dirty & living in virtual ****. I'm serious, I didn't trust him. One minute he said the radio worked, the next he said he didn't know if it did or not. (It didn't.) He spoke openly about running some foodstamp scam. I was floored. The bike is only $1,000 but I don't trust it or him. My boyfriend wanted it badly but I'm afraid it will be another money pit like the last 2 bikes we bought... I am scared to death of this sale but boyfriend wants Goldwing BADLY. I don't have any more $ to invest if this really is the heap of crap I think it is. Is this wise of me to let this one go or should I take advantage of the sale & go for it?
PS: We are NOT mechanically inclined. Boyfriend knows a little about bikes, simple things like battery replacement, etc., but nothing major.
