...parent of a kid that age? After five years of misery in an all-girls orphanage with only one friend, twelve-year-old Alyssa Norris discovers her new power to make animals speak. When a zoo truck stops near the orphanage, a monkey invites her to escape to Africa to live with a family. Alyssa agrees to go, flees Canada, and arrives in Tanzania, where she meets the family. After she disobeys a demand, the family punishes her and temporarily leaves Alyssa all alone. Luckily, a friendly cheetah suggests a tour of the landscape. Alyssa agrees and encounters many intense, risky, and wild surprises with the zoo truck animals.

no the words misery and punishment would put me off.

I have a sister who is 11 and she would not read something like that. She prefers more challenging books, and books about history (horrible histories mind but still)

Somehow i think that would be suited to a younger age group. perhaps 7 to 9?

Its too details for a blurb.

Perhaps not personally, but I would give it a shot :)

It seems like quite a good idea, not as original as some things I've read and maybe a little to babyish, but it sounds interesting.
