Couldnt test ride mine, but sat on it for hours to make sure it fit. Turned out to be the right choice, but that was luck. No dealers around me allow test rides, except HD, so its a crap shoot. Only thing to do is constant research and read the customers reviews. Looking at the M90 for next year, after toying with the idea of a Raider (thanks Cooley) I'm looking for a more comfortable ride. Hope to get lucky again!
I was looking for a bike to ride back and forth to work 1.5 yr ago. I found the m50 on ebay and looked at reviews on it, well as u can see I have one. I bought it, the guy loaded it and brought it home. The next day not having rode a bike put 5 miles on it in the yard. Hey it works. Light weight, easy to handle, and cool looking. I can take off and hang in with the guys on their $18k bikes. so Buy you one.
Had the marauder for a few yrs,,, sold it, and decided recently to get another bike. Wanted the m50. Had not ridden it,,, but didnt matter. Bought it online and just via pics and email. Had it shipped and its perfect!!!
Got my C50 and then my C90T without test rides. Verrrry happy. Only thing I did was extend the bars back 2 inches. Cost was under $50. on ebay. This is a good bike.
I took a 3 mile ride on my M50, wish I had taken it out on the highway and ran it at a higher speed for a longer ride. But all in all I love the bike and it runs great!
I bought mine without a test drive. I started it up to hear how it sounded and did a full 360 inspection on it and then wrote the check. Unless it has ridiculously high miles or has signs that it has been dropped, then I don't see any reason to be skiddish about the purchase. However, if the seller starts to smell a bit scammy, then that is the point I would cut bait and walk. There are a lot of scammers out there who put up pictures of desirable bikes and then post a price that is so low that it is hard to stop thinking about it. It sounds like this guy is a legit seller, so you shouldn't have too much to worry about. Worst case scenario is that you just turn around and sell the bike and probably break even.
Pssst! The original post came in July 2009...I'm pretty sure he bought the bike back then too.
Don't feel bad...nearly everyone has done it...you think you're replying well and providing good information...and then you realize the post you're answering was written back when they were inventing Dirt.
I figured that. I was just responding for posterity in case someone came along the thread with similar questions.
I'm pretty familiar with resurrecting threads from the dead on other forums. I've been around for awhile and have tens of thousands of posts, just not here.
I also bought mine without test riding. but looked cool. I'm 5'7" 188 fits great. people tell me I look too relaxed when I ride. wtf what its about isnt it?!
I drilled out the baffles. some poppingbut no performance problems far as I can see I've put 11k miles on and bought it brand new at 7k out the door. hey,. gas here is $4.52 a gallon..everything's higher in Hawaii..
took rear seat off wife not into riding. drum rear brake not the best ..but no traffic or traffic lights on our island.
Hey, I'm 54 too. I rode into the local Suzuki dealer on my 2004 Ninja and was interested in a new 2009 M50... They would not let me test ride it... I liked it. I bought it. I love it! Go figure?
Vinnie
i bought an 08 m50 brand new, no test ride. loved it, but wished it had 1 more gear for cruising speed. I sold it to my nephew this spring and currently own an 09 m90. absolutely love it. if they had the m90 out when i bought my m50, i would have gone with the 90. more than enought power, and very comfortable. and I am only 5'8" and 180 lbs. the boulevards are all great bikes, and very reliable. you cant really go wrong with them.
