I tdon't think anorexia is about what we all see on the outside- i'm guessing its a way of controlling something that is out of control and is generally triggered by something else... HOWEVER i am researching this at the moment- and anorexia as such is so much more common in areas where the media emphasizes womens weight and the 'perfect body image'- so i think it does make it worse- and if the media didn't exist in the way it does today, it would be a very different story! However- I'm sure a lot of effected young girls (which is probably almost all of them) will look at models and tiny celebrities and think that being as slim as that will make them happy and successful, and i do think that it needs to change, because its impossible not to be effected by it when you're at such a naive time in your life. I also think that so many people say you can't blame the media but i think that we clearly can as its impossible to avoid. As a teenager you go through so much and your mind is like a sponge. Seeing all of these 'perfect images' on a day to day basis that tell you that you will be happy if you look as fabulous as them, is obviously going to have a powerful effect. Because advertising is everywhere we look; on buses, in toilets, magazines, shops, billboards, tv... the list is endless.
