Would you be upset if your boyfriend proposed and you had a lovely night

then he didn't want sex? Me and my boyfriend live together and normally have a great sex life. He took me out at the weekend and proposed. It was really sweet and we had a lovely romantic night with a romantic dinner and a nice walk by the river. Then when we got home and I tried to initiate sex he said he didn't want to ruin the memory of the night and he would prefer if we just kissed and cuddled instead. He said having sex would have taken the romance out of it.

We have had sex since but it bothers me that he didn't want to then. Would it really have been because he didn't want to ruin the romance? why else would he do this?

I hate to break it to you, but... men do not always want to have sex. There's this stereotype that they're ready & willing at a moment's notice, but real relationships don't work that way. Life is not an episode of 'Coupling'.

If you normally have a great sex life, that's wonderful! On this particular instance, however, he wasn't in the mood. It happens. And yes, he was probably telling the truth--not all men associate "romance" with "I'm going to get laid." There are many forms of intimacy, and a good relationship explores all of them. The important thing is that the two of you are able to communicate your feelings & desires to one another.

(FYI, not all couples have sex on their wedding night, either.)

LOL, he didn't want sex to RUIN it??? That is something I would love for him to clarify. Does he not consider sex with you to be a beautiful, wonderful thing? An expression of love between the 2 of you?

The fact that he didn't want sex was fine, sometimes people just aren't in the mood. But his reasons behind it are curious.
