What changed people's tastes?
What do you think the demand is for now?

They've leveled off. Nothing can continue to rise everyday forever.

They have now become part of culture and will be around forever.

Nothing changed people's tastes. People's taste have been and probably will always be interesting stories told interestingly, with sympathetic characters.
Good films - like Wall-E, Ratatouille.

People can no longer suspend their disbelief , mainly because CGI is now so "good" that it has a cartoon-like quality that is as jarring as a man in an ape costume.
