would ya care to read a poem?

Cotton candy dreams and lollipop licks
Jump ropes and scooters
And pick-up-sticks
Put up your dollies
And tiny tea sets
Your croquet balls
And badmitton nets
There went your childhood
Tucked into the past
Lesson today is that nothing will last
Learn to do laundry
Carefully spend
Your own house to live in
Your own errors mend
Marry, have babies
The thrill of it all
The bottles and diapers
Crayon marks on the wall
But too soon it is over
And tucked into the past
Lesson today is that nothing will last
House empty again
But for you and for me
Things we wanted so much
Less important we see
First trip to the doctor
Tucked into the past
Lesson today is that nothing will last.
Nic E, 'Bobby's Girl' might sound like I'm a kid, but I'm an old woman. LOL So, yeah, I wrote it. Thanks for your kind and cute answer.
BG
'First trip to the doctor' referred to Bob's heart-wrenching diagnosis. I'm still apparently healthy, but thank you for worrying about me... <><><><>

From one old woman to another . LOL - I loved your poem - doesn't life go quickly? Your life to date? What are you going to call your poem? "Lesson today is that nothing will last" never truer words said - so "Make hay while the sun shines".

"I think that great poetry is the most interesting and complex use of the poet's language at that point in history, and so it's even more exciting when you read a poet like Yeats, almost 100 years old now, and you think that perhaps no one can really top that." -Diane Wakoski

Can you top that, Yeats, great poetry though......

well, without nothing, we wouldn't have something,or even
anything....

great rhyme
better thoughts to go with it
thanks BG

A masterfully poignant piece. Well done.
Makes me feel the same way I felt after watching
the first 10 minutes of the film 'UP'
(check it out if you haven't seen it)
