Here in Arizona it is already in process, many more bikes on the road. There was an article in the newspaper a while back where they interviewed local dealers, their comments endorsed this theory that people are riding bikes to reduce their commuting cost.
I ride 3-5 times a week to and from work, getting about 52mpg by my estimates. Every little bit helps.
