Would Tmo replace a defective 8700 for 8100?

Greetings all,

I upgraded to an 8700g from a 7105t back in September. For the past few months, I've been having stability problems with the phone. For example, sim card errors, random reboots and the mic cutting out during phone calls with < 2 bars of reception. The phone is in perfect physical condition with no water damage. I've also tried all the OS 4.1 upgades to date.

I know Tmobile has a 12 months warrenty on all of their phones, and I guess a call to customer support is in the near future.

Ideally, I'd like an 8100 to replace the defective 8700. Does anyone know if Tmobile allows this? Or am I stuck getting another 8700 (which I can live with, as long as it works).

Thanks!

prob depends on who you talk to, the higher level reps can maybe accomodate you. From my experience t-mo is the most accomodating to their customers. I would call right away.

I think you would most likely get another 8700. If this happens I'm sure you can try to trade it for a Pearl user that wants to go back to their 8700 or something

In some cases T-mobile will upgrade your phone to a newer model but thats only if the current one is not being made anymore. I have read that some people that own SDA's are able to get a Free Dash as a replacement.

That's a good deal for all people who have a dash but I'm pretty sure as in regards of your BB you would end up getting another 8700.

Ok, great. Thanks to all for your input! I'll provide an update after I call.

jonnyxedge - I don't believe my 7105t is still under warrenty, as it was purchased last January.

I've actually updated the Pearl 8100, for the 8700g; which is much better anyway! I love the full qwerty kb and prefer it over the Pearl (which uses predictive text, for kb input).

I'm a t mobile rep and if you've had a few exchandes set up you could set a another exchange for a different bb device maybe a pearl, especially if you threaten to terminate your account, but to answer your question yes it is possible
!

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~i tried that same thing before but they wouldn't let me. Unless you have a really good excuse, you can tell them either replace my 8700g with an 8100 or I will cancel my account. Because you know they will do almost anything to keep their customers. Just give it a try. Goodluck

they will probably just replace you current phone. try deleting some of the trial third party apps, esp. the ones that use gps navigation like naggie before shipping your phone back. unless you just want a new phone(i aint mad at ya)

Cingular upped me to an 8100 from an 8700 after going through 6 warranty replacements. But I had to create a pretty big fuss. I also pointed out that I spend nearly $200 a month as well as being a customer for nearly 8 years.
