Would This Help Save The Environment?

I know it sounds extreme and police state like but further to my question on OAPs having to retake their driving tests I would go one step further and simply, on someone reaching OAP age, ban them from the roads and confiscate their motorised vehicles (excluding motorised buggies). When someone reaches OAP status they are eligible for a free bus pass so why would they need a car anyway? Just think how many cars we could take off the streets thus making them safer for all pedestrians and cyclists in addition to helping save the environment. They could then spend the money saved on Road Tax and Car Insurance on heating and such like.

I believe this would be a win-win situation.

A better way is to kill off all cows, they pollute the atmosphere with their carbon emissions Best plan get rid of them they are not needed

Oh aye...
How's my grandma gonna get to the corner shop for some milk then?
Tskk..

I guess but I don't drive & have to put up with these barging grannies on the bus!!

So you want them off your road and onto MY buses?!! Ooh you got a fight there ;)

Some OAPs husbands/wives drive so they can take their other half to the hospital for treatment etc. So it can't really be done as such.

you have a point, yet where has their independance gone though.. Think it should be the other way around.. shouldnt be able to learn to drive til ya'r about 30-40ish... that'll get rid of the chav racers!! Less accidents!! OAPs are more carful, you don't see them racing up and down the roads with eachother!! (yet..)

What a brave he or she you are.Firstly remember that whether you like it or not you too will be walking in dead-mans shoes one day.To even suggest of penalising the OAP's is rather disrespectful. However if you want your way, why don't you stick labels on the OAP's reading "out stayed their usefulness"
I am not sure that any of your suggestions will have any effect on the environment, but once all the OAP have been destroyed, this country could finally recover financially.
Give my regards to you grand parents and tell them you are about to relinquish their life.

Basically because public transport systems, now mostly privatised and up for profit you know, do not extend into all rural areas where some older people still need to drive while they can to not become socially isolated. The problem with your solution is that public transport is limited in rural areas if it is not profitable.

DON'T BE SOOOO AGEIST! They have a right to their independance like everybody else!! I agree they should be re-tested over a certain age as eye sight deteriorates and new signs etc, may have come in. They are careful drivers on the whole! What about car boy racers etc??? Is it usually pensioners who are responsible for the hit and runs?? NO!
How about 'everybody' including yourself just not driving as it's cheaper by bus ey,what about people who live in the stix too with maybe 2 buses a day??
What a really ageist stupid comment!!!

For someone of any age, it's cheaper to go by bus whether you have a pass or not. OAPs tend to drive slowly for short distances whereas younger drivers go further and faster. If you're really concerned about the environment, let's raise the minimum driving age to 70.

PS A major source of greenhouse gases is the digestive systems of cattle. You know the solution.

so instead of having cars clogging the roads we will have motorised buggies clogging the pavements instead, how will that acheive anything. these motorised buggies have to be powered somehow presumably by electric so instead of cars consuming oil buggies will be consuming electric instead, its a kind of lose-lose situation.

however i think that the driving test is far too easy, always has been and that everyone should retake their test every 10yrs and when reaching retirement age you should have to take it every 5 years with a compulsory eye test and medical every 12months in order to keep your licence.

listen sonny, who do you think paid to build some of the roads you drive on today. I don't think OAPs worked and paid taxes for a lifetime to be banned from driving just like that. Nor to be forced to take a patronising retest either, many old people have driving records that speak for themselves. The law properly makes people who screw up resit their tests. I'd go further, I'd have a two strikes and you're out policy for serious road offenses such as drink driving.
