Would this be a good first car? (Toyota Corolla)?

I was doing some searching on craigslist and I came up on a 1996 toyota corolla. I just called the guy and he says it has a new inspection, reliable, and is a great car and it has 171k miles on it. I have heard Toyota's last forever, so is it worth it?
(hes selling it for $1500)

It sounds like a deal for the price just don't expect it not to have a few problems. Especially with that amount of millage on it. 171 K is a lot for any car.
