I'm looking for a decent pack that's durable enough to last through the entire Appalachian Trail without any repairs having to be made. I want a light pack but at the same time big enough to carry all the essentials. Know of any good ways to completly water proof it so I can still hike in the rain? Thanks

Osprey, Gregory, Mountain Hardwear, Go-Lite and Arc`teryx all make good packs. I`d go with something light weight but that can hold about 30-40lbs.

You can buy a water proof backpack, waterproof your pack with a spray or wash in product, or you can just buy a pack cover. All 3 are viable options.
