I'm 23yrs old with a good amount of college education. (studied french at UCLA but didn't like it. They didn't let me switch majors as a transfer students, so I transferred to a state college for their great broadcast journalist program, which UCLA didn't have.) I have a year and a half/two years to go in order to get my bachelor's degree. Have been a lifeguard for 3years (love rescuing people), love working with children, love acting/creative arts and helping with humanitarian aid purposes, as well as volunteering for the human rights campaign (I'm gay). Considering the guard because the recruiter told me they pay soldiers $4500 per semester for college tuition either that or they have ROTC or I can enlist as an E-3 since I have college education and go from there. I'd personally prefer to go in as an officer through OCS. The pay is better and according to my military friends, it is hard to advance from enlisted to officer. Given the information, would army national guard be a good fit? (I also looked into the coast guard reserve, but since they are federal, their tuition assistance plan is very different and the amount of service required to serve is longer 4years active, 4years inactive). Do you think it's a good fit? Or should I wait until I finish my 2years of college and try to enlist for an officer position?
