oil does the exact opposite of suncream, it's like when you put oil on a chicken and put it in an oven - effectively you're cooking yourself from the inside out, as the oil attracts the sun to your body a lot more.
but if you're really gonna use oil - and if i understand correctly most oils, like sesame and sunflower, will pretty much work - only sunbathe for 20 minutes or thereabout. otherwise you could burn. and don't wait until you can see a tan developing, because a tan should develop a few hours at least,a fter youve sunbathed. NOT whilst you are sunbathing - by then its probably too late and you've damaged your skin badly.
