I am a LPN who works in a nursing home. On my days off I turn the ringer off on my phone so I can sleep in and not worry about the phone ringing to wake me up. This morning, I got up at 9AM. I received a phone call from my boss at 9:15AM very upset with me for not answering my phone when she called at 5:30AM and several times after. I told her I turn the ringer off my phone on my days off. She said "we have to be able to reach you, the nurse scheduled for today called in sick and I wanted you to come in". There is nothing in our policy book that states that LPN's are "on call" on their days off. I believe I should be able to do whatever I want to do on my days off and if that means I want to turn my phone off, I shouldn't be yelled at for doing so. What is your opinion on this?
