i have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee v8 i was told that if i put racing fuel in it ,it would clean out the engine and turn the pipes chalky white i know i don't need to but im going to so is it a good idea or a bad idea
Well with racing fuel it is true that you will gain a small amount of power. However I wouldnt run it forever. It also very expensive, it wont clean out your engine throughly but will get some of the carbon build up out of the cylinder because it will burn hotter. However that is also the negative part. Your engine was not built for that and it might get to hot and you can break something. Just watch it.
That's a lot of extra expense for no added performance. Put the recommended grade of fuel into your engine and the ECM will deliver the most power it can from that. Going higher won't make any difference and won't clean it out.
If you want to clean it out, add a bottle or two of injector cleaner. It's probably cheaper compared to a tankful of expensive racing gas.
The engines computer will adjust the mix to maximize the burn rate. You only need to run the octane levels that the owners manual calls for. Anything else is a waste of money. Plus, you never know what damage you can do to the emissions systems doing that.
