Would it be weird to go to a night club by yourself?

I have a girlfriend my age but she absolutley hates the club scene, shes pretty much all I have in my town so im looking to branch out. I thought about asking an acquaintance but I think that would be too awkward for me. Im kinda shy but I want to go out in meet people in the type of places where I like to be.
