Would it be feasible to create a bicycle "trunk"?

For situations in which you are cycling by yourself and don't want to take stuff with you, would it be possible to create a bicycle "trunk" which would store items on the bike? (Just as a car's trunk stores items). Is there a safe with a combination lock and a metal protrusion which would allow it to be locked to a bike and act as a trunk?
