I've purchased car audio gear on Ebay....
And I'll tell you a few things.
1. Know what you want before you buy it on ebay.
You buy it and thinking it was the right decision, there usually is no returns and you are stuck with it. So KNOW YOUR PRODUCTS before buying.
1. ASK questions.
If the advertisment is vague...IE: 100 watt amp for sale....and thats it....? and you think you really want it? ask if it works...Ask how long they've had it? what the history is on the amp? repaired? working when they took it out of production? why did they take it out? to upgrade or cuz they were having issues? are their any known issues or problems? is it damaged in any way? etc... the more you ask, the better your chances of a claim thru ebay if they stiff you or ship you out something that was not advertised etc. Use ebay's message center to ask questions etc so that way there is record of it.
3. If they don't answer your questions or avoid or dodge the questions you ask...might stay away from it unless you don't care and could fix up the audio gear yourself... (IE: Repair amplifiers, and electronics etc)
4. Check their feedback rating. good seller? good buyer (give you an idea of character...is he nice? or mean? truthful?) Check out all negative feedbacks for sure, what are they saying? do you think they are legit feedback ratings?
5. If it doesn't feel right.....dont buy it. (easy...)
6. Check Multiple auctions for the items you want to buy. See if one stands out to be a bit better (as usually most of the time the products sell for similar prices) or has better options or features or addons etc.
Sometimes someone will sell an amplifier...one might have scratches and another seller his might be in better condition, or he might have wiring that he plans to throw in, or extras IE: Capacitors, crossovers, speakers whatever....so check that out as well...sometimes you can get a deal because the advertisment is not necessarily forthcoming but you can read the fineprint "you get everything you see in the pictures..."
So with that said sometimes the title on the item may say Amplifier, but in the pictures it will show amplifier, manual, box, cabling, extras...etc...you never know...
7. Be PATIENT. On ebay you win some...and you lose some. So don't have your heart set on something and then feel bad or pissed off or frustrated that you did not win. Also KNOW YOUR LIMITS....dont start bidding too much if you don't want to spend that kind of money.
8. Again RESEARCH! search prices online. Do some searching make sure the prices you are paying on ebay are at LEAST the same price if not CHEAPER than you can get it elsewhere (store, online, some place that has a warranty etc...ebay will not warranty the item). Search recently sold items of the same/similar nature to give you and idea of the going rate. So you KNOW what to expect price wise when you go into bidding on an auction. Take a chance! Sometimes you might get an item that sells high for a really low price....so find some decent items that you want but KNOW you can't afford...and put your MINIMUM amount in that you would spend....ie: amplifier usually sells on ebay for $500, and you only want to spend $300. then drop $300 on the auction....You never know! I've purchased a few things this way and got lucky....and purchased items that should have sold for much more. Just reasearch and be patient...

this is SOMETIMES true, but MOST of the time on Ebay it is cheaper unless it is rare or not in production anymore. Again reasearch will show...use the "Completed Auction" check box OFTEN...so you can see the going rate!

The problem with buying car audio products on ebay or any online store is that they are almost always not going to be an authorized dealer. This means that the manufacturer will not honor the warranty of the product.
You can get some good deals on ebay but you need to make sure you are getting a good product. You want to read the feedback of the seller and try to see if anything comes up when you google search the sellers username.
You can get good deals on all brands, good and bad. You just need to determine if it is worth it to risk buying a product on ebay that will basically not have a warranty included.
