Would I need a 4gauge power wire?

Ok So I currently have an 8 gauge power wire running to an inifnity basslink and a little 2channel amp. The wire has a fuse rating of up to 60amp. Between the amp and the basslink, its only 40amps. So thats fine.

Now my question is, I am trying to get a 4channel amp, which is rated at 40amps alone, so with that and the basslink I am right at 60. The 8gauge wire is rated at 60amps too. So would I be safe still using that same wire or should I just get 4 gauge to be safe???

I always do it by watts, if you're running over 1000 watts I'd get the 4 gauge, then with like 1800 I'd upgrade to bigger wire. It's just my preference.
