Okay. Uhm the fact that its a A not a C (type) is actually good because you are running lower compression, and that is *thumbs up* when it comes to boost.
No need to build up. Just have engine management and do a proper tune...I'll say it again PROPER TUNE! You should be able to run 8-10psi no problem.

just a fun fact. A Porsche turbo II runs about 6.8 compression as opposed to the NA type S motor which runs at 11.0.
