start over? The loss of life woul be tragic, sure, but imagine an Earth with 10 or 12 Billion people. That isn't far away. Contrary to popular belief the radioactivity from nuclear blasts is very short lived, so no, the earth won't be uninhabitible. The survivors will rebuild civilization.
