Would a marriage actually work out if you married someone from a different culture ?

I'm just wondering would a marriage work out if you married someone from a different culture. The reason i'm asking this is because i have a couple of friends, one guy married a chinese business woman in china, he met her on a business contact trip she was the other company's secretary. She can speak english very well so he is lucky. But there is another who married a girl from taiwan and she can't speak a single word of english and they still love each other. I mean how can you love someone if they can't speak your language, am i right or wrong ?? I'm just really curious if a marriage would work out if i married someone form a different culture. Say like if i marry an american lady or a chinese lady, would it be possible for a marriage to work out ? I'm japanese so this is why i am asking.
