Would a chevy engine warranty cover engine light OBDII scanning?

I have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt 2.2L, with 41k miles on it, and the engine light came on. The oil is changed about 25% early based on its internal calculator oil life reading, and i have already checked to see if the gas cap was on tight, which it was. I was half way through a tank of gas from the station i fill up at every week so i doubt it's bad gas. It seems to run fine, except maybe feeling like sluggish around 3500rpm in 2nd and 3rd gears (5spd manual). It has the chevy option cold air intake and stainless cat-back exhaust, non-voiding and actually covered by the chevy warranty.

If i take this to the dealership where i bought the car from, and had the optional intake/exhaust installed, would i be within my rights to argue that the OBDII scan should be free since my powertrain warranty is still valid, so if repair of engine problems is covered, i would think diagnosis of such problems would be part of that.

I'm just really broke right now and a $60 OBDII scan is not a trivial expense to me.

Is there a way i can stick an LED in the OBDII port and bridge another one and it flashes a number of pulses according to the problem? I had heard this a while ago but it was only rumor.
Okay, i didn't know shops like autozone had those to use for free, i had previously struck out at Advance Auto Parts, and been told by Blain's Farm & Fleet it would be a $60 scan. But yes i know the gas cap was completely tight, so i know it isn't that. Maybe a wheel speed sensor went bad or something.
