Would a bad oil plug lead to car burning oil?

My car has been burning oil for a few months now. Although i am lead to believe it is probably a more serious problem (cracked oil pan) than simply a bad gasket on the oil plug. When i pulled the plug the other day i noticed that the rubber gasket is torn and worn a little bit. My car drips a few drops of oil every couple minutes when it is just sitting there. Could a bad plug gasket be the cause of the burning oil smell???

Yes it could if it's allowing the oil to drip out and blow back onto the exhaust when you're driving. This will definitely cause a burning oil smell.
