Indeed, and in fact creativerealms you are so right. In short at a time prior to 2005, Disney had an equal balance of both animated and live action shows (what I like to call a 5/5 split when it came to live action and animation on television. But in the last 2 years Disney channel has been most notably been wanting to get away from its television animated roots and want to go on and do more live action. In fact as of this writing there is only 1 animated show on in prime time (Namely Phineas and Ferb) and 9 Live action shows. so instead of a good 5/5 split (5 live action and 5 animated shows), Disney now holds a 9/1 split (with 9 live action shows and 1 animated one.)
Will Disney Television (most notably Disney Channel television animation) go back from this brink? Not likely as they are trying to entertain 9-14 year old girls on Disney Channel rather than entire families.. Bad Company form IMHO.
As for Toon Disney/Jetix? I mean granted it's a bit more liberal when it comes to television animation but with shows like The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Power Rangers (Whatever incarnation) sneaking in to take away time from the animated series, Toon Disney and Jetix television animation has in a way lost its' way when it comes to producing good programming scheduling even on Toon Disney/Jetix (I mean who here wants to see hour after hour of the same old shows from 2004? I sure wouldn't.. I would want variety here..yet take a look at the Toon Disney/Jetix angle and you see a rut forming.. a rut of blocks..
In closing I have to say that Disney Television animation is at its worst in over 4 years. And this trend will continue to spiral out of control making Disney seem to look appealing in its television department when in reality it has become an "Animated Wasteland" when it comes to television animation.
As for CN and Nick? I think CN has seen the light and has gotten its act together.. Nick however is slow to respond and they've put way too much stock on Spongebob Squarepants and that show's repeatability.. I think when you look at what is bad for 2008 You really can't say any cartoon is bad.. Rather it's what Channels are doing that determines the good or bad that is going on.. Cartoon Network (and it's late night block Adult Swim) are doing good because they bring to their channel one thing the other animation networks fail to do.. namely variety.
Bad Cartoon of 2008? There really isn't any.. Bad Cartoon networks of 2008? Disney with Nick being a close second. CN has the best ideas running and I feel come 2009, when the chips are really going to be tossed in and animation takes on a whole new look, I see CN being up front with Nicktoons doing a good job with new ideas, while Disney and Nickelodeon (proper) falter in their own television animation departments.
That's how this guy sees it happening.
