Worst new cartoon of '08

Just wondered what you thought, personally I don't care for The Secret Saturdays, but it's probably just because it's not my kind of show.

I can respect if you don't like The Secret Saturdays; as you said, it's probably just not your kind of show, but declaring it THE worst new cartoon of '08? That I must respectfully disagree with. (And I'm not just saying that because I happen to enjoy the show.) TSS has only been on the air for 5 weeks (episode 6 airs tonight); I hardly think that 5 shows is enough to declare TSS the single worst new cartoon of the year, or of any year. I've seen much, much, much worse shows than Saturdays.

This is why I generally don't participate in 'Best/Worst' threads. Most of them are just flamebait waiting to happen. Inevitably, someone will question or vehemently disagree with someone else's choice(s), and then it's like opening the floodgates.

Yeah I respectually disagree too since to me TSS is the second best new cartoon of 2008. the best IMHO is Spectacular Spider-Man.

As for worst new cartoon of 2008, Don't have one.

You know, to be perfectly honest, I actually like ALL the cartoons I've seen that have premiered this year.

Chowder and Flapjack are the best comedies CN has put out since Fosters, Alien Force has kept my attention so far (more than the original series did), Spider-Man is the best Marvel cartoon of all time, World of Quest was a sad case of a cartoon taken before it could get it's act together (it had a great concept, but the writers seemed confused as to where they should go), Secret Saturdays is a fun action series, and Clone Wars is alright (enough to keep me watching). I'm willing to bet that Brave and the Bold will be a fun light-hearted action series.

Had you asked me back last year, I could've named a few, but 2008 has pretty much washed away all worry that animation in the US was going downhill. It was just going through a personal crisis and has gotten over it.

Spectacular Spider Man is the only good show to premiere this year. Everything else is mediocre.

Oh, what the hell. I'll probably save myself a couple of flames by adding an IMO.

I can't honestly think of a "worst" cartoon this year mainly because there's very little that actually caught my attention in order to keep watching. I don't really believe Chowder and Flapjack to be anything special, at least not as much as most people claim them to be, and while I can give the shows credit for their good points (both have very nice visuals), the overall product isn't something that makes me check my calendar to see if the show is on.

But if I have to name one, I'd have to agree on Secret Saturdays. One episode and I can't say I want to watch this show ever again. I can't pinpoint exactly what is it, but there's something about the show as a whole that doesn't make me want to tune in.

There is no such thing as the “worst” animated program and I would even go so far as to say that there aren’t any “bad” animated programs either. Quality is subjective; one man’s trash is another man’s treasure and the same is true in reverse. Performance, on the other hand, can be measured. If you want to figure out which animated program had the worst performance in the ratings, that is a meat-and-potatoes issue that we can actually prove. I believe one of those animated programs on Toon Disney would win that unfortunate title, as they receive a 0.0 from time to time, though I’m not really sure if any of them premiered in 2008. However, anything else and we’re all just talking heads. One person says “Show A” is the worst and then one person defends “Show A” and says “Show B” is the worst. The next person defends “Show B” and says “Show C” is the worst. Repeat ad nauseam.

Oh definitely. But I believe that people have enough common sense to realize that posters in this thread are voicing their opinions to state what is the show from this year that they like the less. I don't see why should anyone take anything being said here as "fact".

:^: This is mine if you switch the shows around. I don't really have a worst cartoon, but if I had to choose, I'd pick The Mighty B!. Not really my kind of show.

It's not technically a 2008 show, but i first saw Johnny Test in 2008 and it is awful. It uses some of the worst Flash I've ever seen, all the voices are shrill and annoying, the plots are rushed, they use the same five music cues over and over, and all the jokes are done in this unfunny sarcastic tone. I saw an episode on KidsWB once during the first season, I thought it was alright, but one closer inspection, Johnny Test is a stinker.

IMO, Johnny Test is potentially good premise which is only hindered by one solitary element; JT would be a pretty decent show, if they'd just get rid of Johnny. He's the weakest link of that show, what with his thick-headed stubbornness and his "average boy/kids rule, adults drool" demeanor. If the producers would drop Johnny and make the Test Twins the stars, or replace Johnny with a smarter, less painfully 'average' and more charismatic lead, then the show would be great.

I like the show enough and I can get what they're meaning to do, but they just aren't engaging enough for some reason. The idea is a really cool one and the characters are likable but it's just lacking something...

For Worst Toon of 2008? I don't really have one but if I were to choose one, I would put out Phineas and Ferb.. but it's not because of it being bad.. but rather for the following reason:

Because if I were to nominate a company for worst cartoon handling of 2008, then I would give my award to the Walt Disney Company for it's lack of animated shows on Disney Channel, plus it's mishandling of cartoons on Toon Disney/Jetix, (Which will become Disney XD come 2009).

At one time Disney was a good egg with a number of animated shows on but since 2007, Disney has shoved all of it's shows to unwatchable time slots, have put nothing but live action shows on (not to mention the awful notion of High School Musical and Camp Rock), and have literally abandoned every notion of the word "Animation" from its list. In short CN and even Nick (in even a half hearted attempt) have put together comperable lineups with some good shows and animation. but Disney itself has done nothing to beef up it's line up. In fact Disney has been trying to get away from Animation I feel, and it is called an "Animation company" yet has none to show of it other than one show in prime time on Disney Channel. It's also has abandoned it's scheduling with animated shows and have all but abandoned all of it's older shows for things that are supposedly "New" and "hip" even though they aren't animated.

In short there aren't bad animation shows, just bad animation companies, and for 2008? Disney wins the award hands down for Worst animated company. Best animated company this year is of course CN who's been out there trying to give us more cutting edge and more hard core animation. So yeah I think it shouldn't be worst cartoon of '08, but rather worst cartoon company of 2008.

but as for cartoons being the worst? I've still yet to see some of the rest of the bunch but from what I've seen 2008 has been a pretty darn good year when it comes to animation.

:coyote:

And Wall-E, and Bolt, and next year's Up. And The Princess and the Frog. Plus all the other things both they and Pixar have coming in the next few years.

Yeah, Disney isn't in the animation game anymore.
