Worst mother in animation... no poll.

It's just like the "worst father in animation" - thread. But with mothers instead.
There's alot of bad fathers, so there's got to be a lot of bad mothers too, I think.
So what do you think?

Butters' mom, easily. Not only does she abuse him, but she also tried to kill him for her own selfish reasons and covered it up when she thought she had.

a bit of a head scracher there but of the top of my head
timmy turner mom from fairy odd parents
also the wicked queen from snowwhite and the wicked stepmother from cinderella
trying to kill your step daughter isn't good mothering

The first animated mom who came to my mind was Marge from The Simpsons. But she's actually a pretty good mom. There's definitely some bad ones out there though. On South Park there's Cartman's mom. On Family Guy there's Lois.

Lady Tremaine (a.k.a. the Wicked Stepmother) from Cinderella. After the deatn of Cindy's dad, Tremaine reduces the poor girl to slave status and generally treated her like the scum you scrape off of tomato soup simply because she wasn't her biological daughter. That's pretty low.

Offhand, I would say Lois Griffin from Family Guy because of how she joins the rest of her family in treating Meg like crap. The sad part is that in the 1st couple of seasons, Lois was one of Meg's few allies, now she's just as big a jerk to Meg as everyone else on the show.

Zira from The Lion King II is a pretty bad one herself. She raises Kovu, Nuka, and Vitani to be the descendants of Scar, and makes sure Kovu in particular grows up to kill Simba and take Pride Rock back in their name. And have you heared "My Lullaby" lately? If I was sung that to sleep every night, I would have issues, too. She is like the awful stepmothers from Snow White and Cinderella, but even more messed up.

I'm going to go for an obscure one and nominate Rebecca Madison. Most of you are probably asking "who the Hell is Rebecca Madison?" But I thought it would be more fun to see if anyone could guess first.

Worse then her husband. And that takes some doing. They make one cute couple, don't they?

I think it's a good topic for a poll.
Take it easy, let the thread go for a week or more, just so people can get their choices in, then go to the first post then Thread Tools -> Add A Poll To This Thread :)

Demona from "Gargoyles." Easily. Sure she cares about Angela, albeit in a possessive way. But she used and manipulated the girl in "The Reckoning" and then, was willing to kill her off with everyone and everything else on the planet when she tossed that vial up into the air in "Hunter's Moon" just so she could escape. If Goliath hadn't barely managed to catch it, she'd have killed her daughter and wiped out all life on the planet.

And, according to Greg Weisman's "Gargoyles 2198" plans, Demona is still scheming against humanity when the series starts up. Long after Angela is dead.

Here's the Bad Mothers' Corps:

Yes, I agree. She brainwashed her children and threatens their lives on every other occasion she meets up with the Pridelanders.

Exs: Offers cub Kovu as retribution for intruding in the Pridelands.

Horribly scolds her eldest son to the point that he hates his own little brother.

Makes her only daughter a revenge-seeking spy and Kovu a murderous double-agent.

Inadvertantly gets her oldest son killed, scars Kovu while blaming him for his own brother's death and culiminates with threatening to end her daughter's life.

Quite the mom, eh?

Mystique from the X-Men has three kids, two joined the X-Men, while her normal son tried to kill mutants. I read the "Second Coming" storyline, when Nightcrawler died, Raven didn't get mentioned by Cyclops that her son just died.

Karen Jane Daring is not really a bad mother, but she has to deal pretending that her husband is a bumbling idiot sweetheart. She can't cook, and doesn't know about what mothers do. In Tasummi Unmasked, she washed a mace with the dishes. Like I said, she's not a bad mom, but she's overprotective to her children.

Remember Shredder's Mom from the 80's TMNT? Now that's a bad mom.

No mention of Cartman's mother? (Yes,, I know about Cartman's paternity, but she's still his mother in every other sense)

All she has to do is some actual parenting, but she'd rather have a best friend than a son, thus allowing Cartman to run wild with his often deadly schemes.

Medusa from Soul Eater for me; manipulative and heartless, and hides behind the veil of she did it all in the name of science and research.

  • Melted a demon weapon and fused it with her child Crona's blood, basically turning his blood into a sentient weapon named Ragnarok that constantly picked on him and tormented him.
  • Kept her child in a dark room by himself in order to make him lonely and miserable. Ragnarok would use this time to torture Crona as much as he wanted since it was just the two of them in the room.
  • Gave him a pet only to order him to kill it a short time later. When he refused, she locked him a the room for a few days and then asked him to kill it again. After a few more times of this he broke down and killed his pet so he wouldn't be locked up and tortured again.
  • Forced Crona to around and kill dozens of people in order to feed Ragnarok and grow it's power
  • When Crona made some friends, Medusa threatened him that if he didn't hurt them, she would kill them.
  • Used her own son's safety as a bargaining chip when she was captured by the heroes
  • Went to the heroes under the guise that another enemy had kidnapped Crona and was torturing him and she needed their help to save him. Maka was reluctant to believe her, but Medusa said Crona was still her child and a mother would do whatever it took to save her child.. In the end, Medusa revealed it was all a lie and it was herself who was holding her own child captive. She laughed at Maka for actually believing she'd care about Crona beyond nothing more than an experiment and how Maka puts too much faith in petty things like maternal bonds
