Worst Book Adaptation Movie (No Lists)

Well I'll back you up on this one. If Disney screws this up--I'll boycott the theme park!
 
Captain Corelli's Mandolin was a dreadful adaptation from page to screen, IMHO! Woefully miscast (Nicholas Cage is no Corelli!Penelope Cruz as Pelagia! Ian Holm not being cast as Dr Iannis!), complete Hollywoodification of the story, which stripped away all the interesting characters as well as the threat/horror of the war, and, bar the scenery, was actually painful to watch! I went with two friends who hadn't read the novel & they liked it!
 
I agree with this as well. :( I loved the books and absolutely hated the movie....BUT I saw new moon today, and I will say it was MUCH better than Twilight. Everything improved (some things more than others) with the new director. My expectations were pretty much as low as they could have been so that also may have been why I thought it was so much better than the first one.

ETA: Kristen BARELY improved. If she did at all it was very slight.
 
Never read the twilight book but I agree the acting and flow of everything was terrible. I couldn't help but count how many times the girl who played bella blinked :lol:

I really didn't like the adaptation of Ella Enchanted, the entire plot was changed.. :(

They totally made her out of character. She was not the sweet girl that they made her in the movie.
The took out her badass attitiude and some parts/events that I thought were funny and were expecting to see.
Also her son doesn't end up with Britney Murphy's daughter. After that character leaves in the book she's not heard from again.

I was so disappointed.
 
"Queen of the Damned"-Fine as a stand-alone film. But doesn't come close to the greatness of the book, so i have to keep the book out of my mind while watching. Aaliyah was perfect as Akasha though

i haven't seen The Da Vinci Code yet..mostly cause of tom hanks..i think that was a wrong cast choice.
 
Hey! I found an interesting page from Warner Bros's Queen of the Damned web site! There, the producer of the film tries to reason and justify all that they did with their "adaptation". He made it even worse for them! xD

SERIOUSLY. I wrote down my genuine reaction and published it in hopes that those who THINK they could not have done better, would come to see that they really, truly could have.

That F.A.Q answer thingy is PACKED with utter nonesense and shameless lies! Especially at one point I really was shocked because what they said could not be anything but a shameless lie or them being mental. Please, read the the following through and you'll see just how! Don't worry - I remained very constructive and relatively calm and even do AGREE with them in some things - so it's not like I'm mindlessly bashing them or anything.

I havent seen it yet but I am calling dibs on "Bridge to Terabithia".

The trailer alone is nothing like the book, I am scared.
 
Sadly I have to agree. The book was incredible and the movie...well, it was painful at some parts. And much too rushed. I'm hoping that New Moon is much better.
 
Well I thought that The Da Vinci Code book was really good, but when they made the movie based on the book, I didnt like it as much because they left out some great parts from the book in the movie.
 
I totally agree with you the twilight film was horrible!! I love the books as well but the the actors looked bored and they didn't show the slightest bit of emotion in the way the spoke nor their expressions.

A lot of people love it but I think "A Walk to Remember" was...not good. I think it was mostly the fact that they kind of missed the characters personalities, but just a little bit and that made it a lot different. I think the fact that it took place now had a lot to do with it...even though I guess its fine setting it now, as long as the characters were the same, and Jamie wasn't. She was on the surface, but not really. It just seems like they kind of skimmed the book or something. And they did take out all the religious parts which I'm guessing was to reach a wider audience of something. I don't know. I'm babbling.
 
The newest Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas with Jim Cavisal, was the most idiotic movie, if anyone has read the book, the'd understand that it did no justice to it. The book is way too elaborate to be a 2-hour movie, it needs to be a mini-series to fit every important detail.
 
twilight...i know many may want to attack me for this but the acting was so horrible! it was such a dissappiontment to me, a huge fan of the books.
 
one of my favorite books by one of my favorite writers.....

"running with scissors" (a memoir) by augusten burroughs....

a book about a young boy being raised by his mother's psychiatrist and his family....who are even crazier than his mother........

i've always thought that the title of this book, on it's own, would have made for an interesting movie.....unfortunately the film sucked....even with casting of annette benning, brian cox, evan rachel woods, joseph fiennes, alec baldwin, gwyneth paltrow and jill clayburg......

just as radio was once called "the theater of the mind".....imo books are so much more fulling than the movies that are conceived from them.....books force me to get more in touch with the characters and the plot....by relying on my own imagination and thoughts.......rather than the visual and spoken image of a film.............
 
Ooh, that's another good one. I know lots of people rave about the movie, because it's Stanley Kubrick and Jack Nicholson and all that, but I agree that it was terrible. I feel like if you've read the book it's impossible to like the movie. (just my opinion)

they stuffed it up by skipping crucial character development scenes. half of it didnt make sense.
