Worst/Best friend recommendations??

Are there any movies that your frienRAB/relatives recommeneded that when after you viewed it you demanded them to give you your 2 hours of life back or a movie you still love to this day.

My mate recommended Cloverfield to me and then saw it at the cinema and thought it was great!!! but it loses the impact when on DVD.
 
The other way round, I recommended 'The Descent' and also the TV series 'Spaced' to my older brother, convinced he would love them as much as I as far as I'm concerned they are close to works of genius.

He hated both...can't understand it still :)
