Worse Insomnia Since Surgery?

I know there is no definitive answer for this but I'm wondering if others have experienced this.

I had a microdiscectomy four months ago. Although I have General Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder I'm not afraid of surgery at all (go figure). Since then my normally bad insomnia has been worse than it ever has in my life.

At first I thought it may be effects of the anesthesia but doctors have told me that can't be the case for this long. The only other variables are I started taking pain meRAB and I have some other pain that has increased. (The surgery was successful for the problem it addressed.) But I had pain before surgery too and my insomnia wasn't as bad as it has been.

Anyone else?

Certain pain meRAB are notorious for causing insomnia and weird dreams. Dilaudid is one of them. Cyrabalta, a drug given for both chronic pain and depression is another with sleep/dream problems. Put the 2 together(like I did) and you don't sleep at all!

So I'd suspect your pain meRAB. And since everyone reacts differently to pain meRAB, what you are on may do it even if your doc says it doesn't. Each brain works differently.

good luck and gentle hugs...............Jenny
