What timing for this post. This is a great web-site!!!
I also have had numerous surgeries and take Vicodin for the chronic pain. I have been taking it for a while. But in the last 6 months I have been taking a lot (about 6 per day of 10/325). I dont think I am addicted, but I definitely get certain negative body reactions if I wait too long to take the next dosage. That is definitely a sign of dependance. It sucks because it does reduce the pain but I am starting to get worried about addiction. I am going to my primary care doctor Monday or Tuesday to ask for guidance and a plan to start slowly tapering off of Vicodin completely. The ironic thing is that I am going to be having surgery on my chest in 3 weeks. I am going to need the Vicodin after that surgery. It never enRAB???

Cowpin8, yes this is the right place to be! Why don't you post a separate thread about your situation so other people can respond to it. I can talk to you about tapering and the dependency part then.

Those "negative" body reactions are probably beginning withdrawals that you are experiencing because your body is so used to a certain dose. I had them too when I was taking the Oxy on a regular basis. Tapering down to a lower dose to just handle the pain might be something for you to consider. When I had my initial injury, I was regularly taking 60 mg/day of oxycodone. I didn't realize that my pain has decreased dramatically until one day I decided to stop taking the pills so I could go into the surgeon's office the next day for an evaluation. I was durab about opiate drugs then and besides having my head in a toilet for 12 hours, I realized that my neck and back pain were less. So I dropped down to 10 mg over about a month and still noticed my pain was substantially lower. That was when I canceled my surgery and started my ill fated journey to get off of the opiates and eventually found this forum. I've been on it every since.

The point being, I never realized the pain was gone, but my mind was convinced that it was still there while I was taking the oxy. So I kept taking it. This last bout of pain, I only took the oxy on an irregular basis and only an amount that stopped the pain. I think it worked well.
