Workplace rights for small businesses?

If your boss sets you up to fail so he can fire you, do you have any legal recourse? If it is his business and you're the only employee (it's just the two of you there)? It seems a lot of the worker's rights laws apply only to larger businesses.

Why would your boss set you up to fail if you are the only employee? If you fail, so does his business. If he doesn't like you, he would just fire you.

Actually, it is the same, in this regard, for small businesses as for large businesses.

The boss can set you up to fire you and you have no real recourse, because the boss doesn't actually need a reason to fire you anyway.

But many larger companies do have published policies and procedures, like an employee handbook, and they do have to follow their own rules.

I am in the same position right now, i will probably be rid of soon. What i did about 3 months ago is got a small tape recorder and taped everything he said to me that i thought was abusive. He knows!! The recorder went off today as i leaned on a desk, he heard my voice. OH WELL!!! maybe he'll think about it now. I want out of that place but i don't want him to lie and terminate me for no good reason, i have it all on tape.
Get one, can't hurt, only help.

There is no "right" to a job, sorry.

An employer in an "at will" state can fire you because the wind blew the wrong way that day. The only thing you can get out of it is unemployment benefits, assuming you werent a 1099 contractor..

As long as they didnt fire you for age, sex, race, etc etc ( IE the legally protected rights), you really dont have a leg to stand upon...

EDIT--- taping.. like the person above me is doing can actually be ILLEGAL in some states and be grounds for firing in and of itself!!! Be VERY careful employing that tactic...
