"Word Girl"/"Word World"/"Super WHY"

I think it's safe to assume that most people here don't watch new childrens' edutainment shows.:p I mean, there's really not much point in watching this if you already know how to read.
 
Now hold on, "Liberty's Kids" was a damn good show. Lots of celebrity guest stars and a great way to learn the history of the American Revolution. It was my favorite show when I was 15. Shame its not on PBS anymore.
 
Hmmm... I have seen Word girl. A Soup 2 Nuts production made here in Massachusettes. They used to be Squigglevision, am I right?

Now that one, other than being a younger kid's show (I guess somewhere between 5-7) is actually pretty snappy. Much like other Squiggl2nuts productions, it's very heavy in odd conversation dialogue, but I think it's better than Science Court was. plus their new animation gives the show a much better pace than their earlier works. Kid's show or not, the dialouge in this one is pretty snappy and it really is a notch above other kid's shows....

Super WHY on the other hand... I had the misfortune of accidentally seeing it, and it was the same old Dora/Blues Clues pretending to make TV interactive bull. The long pause when the 2 year olds are supposed to yell back at the screen. The talking r e a l l y s l o w l y and pretending that the kids are geniouses.... horrednous backwards stuff. Plus the characters look so bloody ugly. I just want to reach into the TV and crush them with my foot.

Word World... I didn't see it, nor do I want to. But I have seen the character designs. They are kinda cute and cleve, trying to make them look like word/animal hybrids.

To sum it up, Wordgirl=clever, Super WHY? Should be called Super WHY GOD, WHY!?!?! If I want to watch a kid's show (or to recommend one) that's about reading, I'd go to the 1970's Electric Company.
 
Hmm...Here's in Baltimore, MD, channel 54 used to show Archie's Weird Mysteries at 7:30 am, but now, they're showing Liberty's Kids.
 
PBS Kids' "Between the Lions" is a modern version of "The Electric Company". Even there have been rumors about a new version of "The Electric Company" in the mid 1990's that never took place though a "The Elecric Company" revival is still rumored for 2008-2009.
 
Actually, I thought they cancelled BTL.... I watched it when it first came out. And I had to say, "YES! This is exactly what Sesame Street used to be like!" A show both parents and kids can enjoy.

I would like to see a new Electric company, but somehow it just won't be as good. Rita Moreno is old, Bill Cosby's old and grumpy, and Morgan Freeman's old and has a successful movie career. But to be fair, he worked with Spiderman on TEC before he worked with batman.
 
PBS has been speculating about making a new Electric Company for years. If/when it ever does happen, undoubtedly it would/will sport an all-new cast. I highly doubt that Morgan Freeman is going to put aside his million-dollar motion picture career to go back to playing Easy Reader.
 
I know. I can't wait for the classic fans that whine constantly about Elmo (A character kids love) taking over (a show ment for kids), whine about how it's not exactly the same as something from 30 years ago.

I suppose they could get Mathew Broaderick and Nathan Lane to play Letterman and that bad guy whose name escapes me at the moment.
 
I'm in Maryland right now, and I get 54! Thanks, man.

Say, why is 54 an hour behind other stations? I remember as a kid way back in 1998 catching Batman/Superman Adventures at 3:00PM (even though they were supposed to air at 4:00) and being able to watch Mystic Knights and Young Hercules on Fox Kids. It worked out great, though I cannot imagine why that one network would alter its scheules like that.
