Wood TW6-6 TW-555 Cam Dyno Test by Fuel Moto

I am just wondering if Jamie is going to have to hire another person to answer all the calls he gets when he releases the pricing for these kits. Wow those are some numbers.

So I've been going back and forth. I love the #'s of the 555 and you guy's say it will work fine with my stovk 96"/fatcat but I think it might be too much cam for me as I have been looking at the 204. The 204 might be a better choice for me. My ride has 73,000 miles and I ride everyday usaly 80 miles a day mostly freeway miles doing 70-75. I am happy with the stock power but I am not happy with the stock profile of harely's cam. Just want someone to give me a reason to go for the 555 over the 204. I am not a drag racer and the 204 might have a better torque profile for me. Am I wrong. Is the 555 a better cam for me. I was considering doing a 107" next summer till I got some prices from Revolution and 3000+ is too much for me.

Good question. You have 73,000 miles on your engine now and just looking for a little bit more. I'd do the 204 because they hit pretty decent on the bottom and run into the 5,000 rpm range. I'd run the 204 until I needed to pull the puppy down for a complete rebuild then do the full meal deal.

Not sure what you mean by too much. Lift maybe? The 555 seems to be a great fit in the 96. I was a little curious if the additional lift was going to incur a penalty at the lower rpms, but certainly doesn't.

The 204 is a good choice for a stock 96. I put them in my 103, along with high ratio rockers, which gives the cams a .540 lift, adds a couple degrees duration and speeds up the ramps.

Either way, you'd probably be happy with the performance. The 204s have 8* advance ground in, and might hit a little bit earlier than the 555s, and lose a little bit on the other end. With the high ratio rockers, I'd expect the performance of the 204s to be pretty close to the 555s. Run at stock lift, they are similar to the Woods 6.

The performance of the 204s is weighted towards the middle. They don't hit quite as early as the 255s, but carry a little longer. There is no torque penalty at low rpms compared to stock cams. They also have a pleasant idle lope.

73K miles on an 07 softail? Man, thats some riding! Thumbs up to you for that.

Thats one thing no one talks too much about is the other characteristics of the cam. Idle quality, valvetrain noise, ease of tuning etc. I may have missed it in the 31 pages of this thread though.

I'd say you can't go wrong with either cam choice for your bike.... all depends on what you want to do in the future - if you just want to put cams in and then forget about it, go the 204. If you think you are going to add compression or more cubic inches later down the track, then go for a cam that can do that like the 555.

If I was looking for a cam for a 96" motor and I had a decent "performance" 2-1 pipe like the fatcat I would go with the 555.... it will give you all the performance you could wish for and will grow with you if you decide you want to build the motor later on. If you had a different exhaust that didn't peform that well I would say use the 204 to preserve low end TQ.

Have you ruled out the SE255? Lots of success with those cams in the 96 touring bikes. (as I'm sure you've heard plenty of times)
