Wonderwoman

IESB.net have interviewed Joss Whedon and they asked him about the Wonder Woman film. Here is what he said about it:

"IESB: Wonder Woman, you're working on it

DC Comics President Paul Levitz has been talking about the Wonder Woman film and how it is developing "It's coming along. Supposedly, Joss is turning a script in any moment now. I can't emphasize enough how normal it is for these projects to take forever. The gap between signing the project for Superman 1 and the film coming out was six years. The gap between signing the contract that led to the first Tim Burton Batman movie was nine and a half years. The gap between the last, if you will, cycle of Batman films and Batman Begins was nine years I think. It's been about nine or 10 years since we got the Superman film rights back to Warner Brothers before we got this one going. And it's not just us. For whatever reason, Spider-Man was the worst mess we'd ever seen in terms of the business maneuvers it took to get it done. By their nature, these are big and complex things to put together. You don't build them fast." So I guess we shouldnt expect to see it too soon!

I get the feeling Joss Whedon may update the Wonder Woman costume for the modern audience as has happen with all superhero costumes when they have had a film recently!

Surprised no one's mentioned Morena Baccarin, who played Inarra in Firefly. She's got the looks, build and has youth on her side to carry off the sequels.

I got Joss' autograph at the UK Serenity premier and asked is Morena going to be cast - to which he gave a wry smile and answered 'you're not the first to say that'.

No way Charisma Carpenter's gonna get it. He's going to go down the 'unknown' route, like Routh for Superman. CC has more recognition than MB and will forever be known as Cordelia, which'll work against her - and she's too old.

Go Morena!! :D

Yeah I have to agree with you on that as Morena Baccarin is also my perfect choice to be cast as Wonder Woman as she certainly fits the part!
She is also unknown apart from to fans of Firefly and Serenity but we will have to wait and see who Joss chooses!
I think that bit from IMDB about Jaime Murray auditioning for the role of Wonder Woman is rubbish as Joss Whedon hasnt even finished writing the script let alone started casting any roles yet!

Joss Whedon has been talking about how Wonder Woman is coming along as he said "I am having enormous trouble with the ["Wonder Woman" movie] script. It's going very well and I'm loving life, but because it's only at script stage and there will be no discussion of casting before, I don't really deal with that. No, it's weird, I'm in my office and it's just me." He continued "It's kept me busy for a long time. I'm finally finishing the second draft. I'm very happy with it, but wow! Wow, this one was like pulling teeth. It's tough. I would watch "Batman Begins" and just grumble, just b*tch and moan, because he's got everything. He's got so much of the work done for him. He's got the best rogues' gallery. He's got the best origin story. Wonder Woman is a lot more to figure out. But it's coming together"

I think I am the only person posting in this thread but according to The Hollywood North Report Joss Whedon is in talks with a Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra to play the lead in the Wonder Woman movie. I dont know how much truth is in this rumour though!

Yeah I am the only person posting in this thread. So here is some more info from Superherohype:

"We've already heard repeatedly from producer Joel Silver that Joss Whedon had turned in an approved script for Wonder Woman, but we never have learned why Silver decided to pursue the rights to the DC Comics character created by William Marston, or why he picked Joss Whedon to direct it, for that matter.

In this exclusive interview with ComingSoon.net/SuperheroHype.com from the San Diego Comic-Con, where Silver was promoting his latest horror thriller The Reaping starring Hilary Swank, we asked him some of those unasked questions.

"It was after I made 'The Matrix' when I saw the response of the first tests and I realized the Trinity character was the highest-tested character," he told us. "This was before they had done 'Charlie's Angels' or 'Elektra' or any of these movies, and I thought, 'Let's just go out and try to make Wonder Woman work,' and I could never find a script that I liked, but we're close now."

And what made him think of getting Joss Whedon to write and direct it? "I just thought he would be the perfect guy to write it. I love Buffy and he's a great writer. I sat down with him and asked if he'd do it, and he wrote me a note where he passed, and in the note, he explained what the movie had to be. There was no way I was going to let him pass, so I hammered him until he said, 'Yes.'"

When asked about the general take that Joss took with the movie, Silver explained, "It's the origin story. It has mythology. Steve Trevor crashes on the island and they go back to Man's World."

"We have a script and we know where we're going," he responded when asked about where they are in the casting process. "She'll probably be someone you never saw before, because she's very young, but I think we'll have a good time with it."

Silver also responded to whether he has any worries about making the movie after the weak box office openings for other movies based on the big DC characters like Batman Begins and Superman Returns. "I love Batman and Superman, I love them both," he said. "I'm just trying to get the best version of the movie that I can. It's the trifecta. Those are the three oaks of DC Comics. I mean, Marvel Comics have tended to be hipper and cooler in many ways because they were designed to react against the DC Comics, but the DC Comics characters were the real deal, so we're trying to get this right."

Here is a bit of news about Wonder Woman film from the Superherohype website:

"Joss Whedon has posted a little update on the Wonder Woman movie on the Whedonesque message boarRAB:

And since I haven't posted (anything real) in some time let me bring y'all up to speed. The Brothers Warner HAVE read Wondy Gal, and are arranging a meeting to tell me that it is a perfect crystalline gem and I must not change a word, nay, not a syllable. I'm certain that's how it will go."

Please not Halle Berry I cant think of anybody worse in the role especially after that disater that was Catwoman!
To be honest I hope they go down the route of Superman and cast an unknown actress in the lead role of Wonder Woman!
