LATEST: KATE BECKINSALE has reportedly joined the race to play WONDER WOMAN in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER creator JOSS WHEDON's upcoming comic book movie. The British actress is in negotiations with Whedon, according to movie gossip website joblo.com. Insiders claim Whedon is "very happy" with Beckinsale and confirmed last week (ends31MAR06) that production on his highly anticipated movie adaptation of the popular comic book series will begin filming in early September (06). Buffy stars SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR and CHARISMA CARPENTER, and teen queen LINDSAY LOHAN have been linked to the coveted role - which was played on TV by LYNDA CARTER. Former hot favourite Carpenter even remarked she was putting off having a second baby in the hope of landing the dream role. She recently told a reporter, "I'd like to (have another baby) eventually, but I want Wonder Woman right now. "I'm not holding my breath, but I'm crossing my fingers and toes and praying."


ugh I'm sorry but I can't see how Lindsay Lohan's name was mentioned. She just IS NOT Wonder Woman.

I think Monica Bellucci and Maria Grazia Cucinotta look right for the part and I could see someone like Jennifer Connelly or even Catherine Zeta-Jones doing it as well.

I really like Lauren Graham but for some reason I have a hard time imagining her as Wonder Woman.

I just hope they don't settle for a twenty-something with no screen presence.Frankly, I think Sarah Michelle Gellar, Eliza Dushku, Erica Durance, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and Katie Holmes are all too young for the role.

Charisma Carpenter? Somehow, I don't see her making it on the big screen.

I doubt it's going to be any of the actresses Joss Whedon has previously worked with on his TV shows. I remember him clearly stating "This is a film we're making, NOT a party for my friends."

Whedon might pull a Bryan Singer on this one and cast a complete unknown in the lead role, since judging by his casting choices for his TV shows, he definitely has a thing for doing that.
 
I could see Angie Harmon (actress from Law & Order) doing Wonder Woman. Out of that list thought I would mind seeing Angelina Jolie do it.
 
Yeah, right now it's tied between Angie and Lauren as far as I'm concerned.
Is there any other suggestion for who could play the part?
 
i don't know, i think salma hayak would be great in terms of looks. i don't know, katie's dimples annoy me & her presence seems too girly, not very commanding. All the choices voices don't seem right either, esp. eliza, charisma and jessica.

i think they're better off going an unknown who will completely embody the part, looks and talent. rather than settling on anyone cause they're famous.
 
Umm...Lauren Graham is a sure fit in the looks department, but it all depends on the age they are going for. If older, I'd definitley think they would be best suited using Lauren. Younger, however, Eliza Dusku.

Joss Whedon, who is writing and will direct the upcoming Wonder Woman movie, told SCI FI Wire that he wants to give the venerable franchise the Batman Begins treatment, making sure fans get what they want: the costume, the bracelets, the lasso, maybe even the invisible jet.

"What's exciting is, like, Batman Begins basically really did a wonderful job explaining exactly why he was a bat and why he had everything on his costume that he did," Whedon said in an interview. "That's the joy of doing an origin story of Wonder Woman. Why does she wear the bracelets? Why does she use the lasso? Like, ... where does all that stuff come from? ... And I have answers for all of that, and it's really fun. So it's not a reinvention like, 'Oh, she's going to dress like Trinity [from The Matrix].'"

Whedon is in the process of writing the script for the movie, which has yet to be cast. "I want to see Wonder Woman as I know her and see her, [and] not ... [just her] star-spangled panties. But she wears the Wonder Woman outfit, and she has the bracelets and all the accoutrements. ... The lasso and, if I can make it work for the plot, the invisible plane. I have a take on it that I think is cool. It's just I'm structuring the plot, and I've got to find a place for it. But I think people want it, and I think I can do it without ... it being campy, believe it or not. And I respect those things. I, in fact, love them."
 
Yea a lot of people seem to not want a younger WW. Linda Carter rocked and she wasn't as young so maybe someone not too young would be good, but Joss seems to want early to mid 20s I think. I'm very curious who is his top choice. A while ago i heard jessica biel, but that was a while ago so who knows now.

U know what? I'll just play the role :lol: ;) hehe I'm such a kidder lol
 
I guess Lauren Graham is a good choice. She even looks like the Justice League cartoon's Wonder Woman :D

Resurrecting this because some of the new front runners for the WW lead are:

-Catherine Zeta Jones (40s)

-Jessica Biel (20s)

-Sarah Michelle Gellar (20s/30s)

These are the latest reports from various sources. The SMG one isn't a new one since Joss Whedon is writing/directing the film... BUT it is new in that she may be seriously considering it instead of it just being a rumor.

Also...

A name that hasn't been thrown into the ring (on this board) that might actually be a surprise casting choice and be a pretty good one is Katie Holmes.

She is young enough (20s) to do an "origin" story, but "old" enough to project a mature presence on screen -- vs. someone like Jessica Alba -- That would be the perfect blend for our heroic Amazonian crime fighter.

In addition, when asked about filming "Batman Begins", a lot of the questions are about her character and if she gets to kick any butt along side Christian Bale. Unfortunately, she is more of a love interest... But she said she'd love to do a movie where she was able to get more physical and be a strong female role model. Foreshadowing? Hmm...
 
Actually I would have to agree with you quarterley. I forgot about Rachel Bilson wearing that wonder woman outfit :eyebrows:
