I was talking to my mother who is entering into semi-retirement as an art appraiser and has finally begun having real success as an artist in her own right, working at it in her off hours. The thing is, she had a lot of complaints about the mentality of many art collectors, people who see art an as investment and have no aesthetic sensibility whatsoever. And my step father is a very successful doctor, so she could easily have devoted all her energies to her art. But she was determined to always be bringing in an income, even if it wasn't necessary. Is having an income that important to you?
